Better writing by writing
Posted: July 17th, 2008 | Author: steve | Filed under: writing |I’ve been a Copyblogger RSS subscriber for God know how long now. Brian Clark is an entertaining and informative blogger and an expert copywriter.
I find the whole field of copywriting very interesting. We’ve all visited no end of sites that promise “1000 inbound links in only 3 days” or “massive traffic to your site in four steps” and so on. They all follow a formula and most of them you would instantly click away from because they’re so obviously scams but some of them, well, some of them just kinda draw me in. Make me almost believe in what they are selling. Then I check myself and click away - most of the time. It’s the art of great copywriting that draw the reader in and makes them trust the author and pushes all the right buttons to get them to purchase.
I followed a few links from Copyblogger today and one really hit me. It was one of them that said something so obvious that you needed someone else to tell you it but you knew it already moments. It was a blog post that basicaly said, “to become a better writer you need to practice. Don’t think about what you are writing, but just sit down and blast out something for 10-15 minutes. You’ll be surprised at your results”.
And that’s what I’m doing right now. I never planned to write this. I just started writing and kept going. It’s a kinda relaxing experience, just writing away without pausing to check spellings, grammar or worrying about SEO or content layout. It just flows…..
I’m gonna try one post like this every day on whatever subject I feel like on that day. I’d like to try my hand at copywritng and I know a thing or two about SEO anyway so it might kick off or it might not. I reckon there’s many small-medium companies who’d pay a fair buck for some decent copy on the web to draw in their customers.
